I can count the many times I've gone to a fast food restaurant where the cashier has been unpleasant. Instead of responding negatively I kill their attitude with kindness; nine times out of ten that person's reaction is a positive one, sometimes I even see a smile. 

We all have bad days, we all go through difficult circumstances and though we try not to let it, it can affect us at our work. Perhaps the gentleman at the drive- thru window received a phone call five minutes before attending you and was informed that he has cancer, or it maybe that the young lady at the coffee shop who served you, has her baby girl  in the hospital and is unable to be with her because she's a single mom and can't afford to lose her job. If we put our thoughts and emotions to the side and consider for a moment, what that person is feeling we are more likely to treat that person with kindness than react negatively towards their actions. 

We all know that famous bible quote:

"Do to others as you would like them to do to you."  -Luke 6:31

If we are unkind and cruel we will be treated as such, but if we treat others generously, graciously and compassionately, these qualities will come back to us in full measure.

Let us teach our children kindness by leading by example; clothing yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

You better watch out, You better not cry

Better not pout, I'm telling you why

Santa Claus is coming to town

He's making a list, And checking it twice;

Santa Claus is coming to town

He sees you when you're sleeping, He knows when you're awake

He knows if you've been bad or good, So be good for goodness sake!

I'm telling you why, Santa Claus is coming to town

Most children grow up believing that if they are not good their names will be placed on Santa's naughty list. While I have nothing against Santa, the truth is - he is not real. Our children eventually grow up and find out the truth and playing the Santa card with our kids is no longer an operative way of convincing them to behave good. 

So, what do we do now? How can we convince our little "angels" to be good? I believe that the most effective way of teaching our children goodness is through God's word. When we help our children understand the depth of Jesus' goodness, when they comprehend the extent of the price to which Jesus had to pay for our gift of salvation and where we would be without it; it will compel them to live a life that is pleasing and good in God's sight.

Let us teach our children what is right and let us learn together what is good.

PRAYER FOR GOODNESS

May goodness and mercy follow _________ all of the days of his life, and may he dwell in your house forever. (Psalm 23:6)

O Lord, remember not the sin of _________'s youth or his transgressions; according to your steadfast  love, remember __________ for the sake of your goodness. (Psalm 25:7)

What is Love?

I can sit here and write a whole dissertation on love but instead I'm going to let the Love expert impart His knowledge on the subject. 

"Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude.

 It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 

Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. -1 Corinthians: 13 4-7 NLT (Re: Holy Bible, A.K.A God)

Society says that love is what makes a person feel good and that it's all right to trade God's principles to obtain what their hearts desire, thus contaminating the one true meaning of love. 

1 John 4:9 & 10 says:

"God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. 

This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

Real love is an action, not a feeling. 

The greatest act of love is giving oneself for others. Paul said: "If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn't love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn't love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it;but if I didn't love others, I would have gained nothing.

It is impossible to have this love unless God helps us set aside our own human desires so that His love becomes complete in us.

May our children experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. then they will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. 

PRAYERS FOR LOVE

May ___________ let your perfect love take up permanent residence in his life. That he may live in You and You in him.(1 John 4:17)

May ___________ never refuse to love because God is Love. (1 John 4:8)

May __________ love You, Oh Lord, with all his heart and soul, strength and mind, may he love his neighbor as himself. (Luke 10:27)

Lord, may you recognize __________ by his love for You. (1 Corinthians 8:3)

May __________ not just pretend to love others, but really love them. May he hate what is wrong and hold tightly to what is good. (Romans 12: 9)

I Pray that God's complete and perfect love will take permanent residence in the hearts of our children.

Integrity

      An honest life is far more valuable than wealth. Unfortunately, people will 

compromise their integrity by cheating on their taxes,  stealing from stores or employers and lie, just to increase their wealth. But dishonesty comes at a low price, no amount of money can justify your fraudulent behavior. 

"Better to be poor and honest

than to be dishonest and a fool."

Proverbs 19:1

When you choose to do what's right before God (even if it means going against your authority) you are displaying honor and allegiance to God. 

Honesty and uprightness are not always easy, but they are what God demands. 

Let us ask the Lord for discernment and courage to be consistently honest and truthful, for those who walk in integrity; blessed are their children after them. 

PRAYERS FOR INTEGRITY

May __________ walk before you as King David walked, with integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that you have commanded him and keeping Your statutes and rules. (1 King 9:4)

Till he dies, may ___________ never put away his integrity (Job 27:5)

May _________ ponder the way that is blameless and walk with integrity of heart within your house (Psalm 101:2)

May ____________ show himself in all respects to be a model of good works and in his teaching show integrity and dignity. (Titus 2:7)

Like Daniel, may _________ resolve not to defile himself. (Daniel 1:8)

Forgiveness

How hard is it to ask someone to forgive you for hurting them? 

I believe that admitting or acknowledging that you've wronged someone takes courage, but confronting that person and asking them to forgive you (not knowing if they are willing to forgive you) takes humility. Matthew 5:23 & 24 says:

"If you enter your place of worship and, about to make an offering, you suddenly remember a grudge a friend has against you, abandon your offering, leave immediately, go to this friend and make things right. Then and only then, come back and work things out with God."

Broken relationships can hinder your relationship with God. If you know you've wronged someone don't let your pride rise up and ignore it, humble yourself and apologize. Our attitude towards others reflect our relationship with God.

 God also calls us to forgive those who hurt us. Jesus told His disciples: 

"Even if that person wrongs you seven times a day and each time turns again and asks forgiveness, you must forgive."  Luke 17:4

That's a tough pill to swallow! But, as we realize how Christ has forgiven us, it should produce an attitude of forgiveness towards others. When we don't forgive others we are setting ourselves above Christ. 

In Matthew 6:14 &15, Jesus gives us a warning about forgiveness.

"If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your father will not forgive your sins," 

God will refuse to forgive us if we refuse to forgive others. When asking God to forgive you of your sins, you should also ask yourself if you have forgiven those who have wronged you.

Remember to speak to your children about forgiveness. Remind them that just as Christ died in the cross for our sins and forgives us everyday day for our trespasses, so should we forgive others. 


PRAYERS FOR FORGIVENESS

May __________ repent and be baptized in your name, Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of his sins. (Acts 2:38)

May __________ forgive others if he holds something against them. (Mark 11:25)

Honor

Just a couple of days ago I heard my older son say something he shouldn't have. When I asked him if he said what I thought he said, he responded, "Yes mom, I did say that, I'm sorry". After I redirected Jordan I asked him if he loved God. He shook his head up and down while his eyes were looking down. 

I told him that it's not enough to say that you love God, you must also live a life that honors God by the way you walk, speak and treat others. 

"Honor the Lord for the glory of His name. Worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness." Psalms 29:2

We also need to teach our kids to honor others regardless of who they are or how they treat you. 

"Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other." Romans 12:10

We need to honor people because they have been created in God's image. There is no one greater than the other. We are brothers and sisters in Christ and all contribute in our own unique way to Christ church. 

Parents, we also need to honor our children. Love them for who they are, treat them the same way you would like to be treated. Yes, we are their authority but just as God (our authority) honors us with his love, mercy and grace, so should we honor our children. 

Let us pray for our kids, that they may grow to be men and women who honor others and above all God. 

May You, Lord, bestow favor and honor upon _________________. (Psalm 4:11)

May ________________ honor You with his wealth and with the first fruits of all his produce. (Proverbs 3:9)

May _______________ honor everyone and love the brotherhood. May he fear you and honor his leaders. (1 Peter 2:17)

May ___________ honor his father and mother, for this is the first commandment with a promise. (Ephesians 6:2)

A Servant's Heart

Just last night my 5 year old son told me he wanted to live in Africa. I explained to him that the children in Africa are not as privileged as we are. We sat at the computer together and I showed him pictures.

His little eyes opened wide when he saw their beds covered with nets to protect them from Malaria, and he sighed when he saw the babies with no clothes. After viewing the pictures of the children and their living conditions he turned to me and said, "Can we go to Africa to help them?" At that very moment I saw a heart of a servant in my little boy.

Jesus' days here on earth were dedicated to helping others. His mission was to serve others by giving His life away.

"...Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many." Matthew 20:26-28

A real leader has a servants heart. Servant leaders appreciate others' worth and realize that they're not above any job.  A servant doesn't approach life expecting special privileges, instead he seeks for ways to help others.

Moms, we need to teach our children that if somethings needs to be done, don't wait to be asked, take the initiative and do it like a faithful servant. 


PRAYERS FOR A SERVANT'S HEART

May (your child's name) be your servant, Lord Jesus Christ. (James 1:1)

May ____________ not use his freedom to satisfy his sinful nature. Instead, may he use his freedom to serve others in love. (Galatians 5:13)

May ____________ use his spiritual gifts to serve others, as a good steward of your varied grace. (1 Peter 4:10)

May __________ be a servant, for the greatest among us shall be servants (Matthew 23:11) 


Let us lead by example and serve someone in need today.

Overcoming Fear

When I was a little girl I was afraid of the dark. In my preteen years I feared being rejected and bullied by other kids in school. In high school my chorus teacher asked me to sing a solo and because I was afraid, I turned down the solo. 

At the age of 20, I remember sitting with my dad at the kitchen table right before I got married. With tears in eyes I told my father, "I'm so scared dad, what if we don't have enough money to pay our bills? Two years later my husband and I were presented with an unexpected surprise. I was sitting on my couch waiting for my husband to come home from work. He walked in and said, "I got fired today." My response to him was, "I'm pregnant." Immediately fear set in on both of us. 

Now, at the age of 35, I am no longer afraid of the dark, I am confident in who I am, I can stand in front of hundreds of people and lead worship, I've been married for 14 years, and I have 3 handsome boys. 

My fathers words resonated in my ear every time I was about to give in to fear. "Daddy's here you don't need to be afraid, I will stay right next to you until you fall asleep my princess."Then he would pray and recites God's Word.

"God's angel set up a circle of protection around us while we pray." 

Psalms 34:7

Just like my father was at my bedside when I was scared of the dark, so was my heavenly father in those darkest moments. Just knowing that My Heavenly Father loves me and is watching over me, takes away all my fears.

"There is no fear in love, but perfect Love cast out fear..." 1 John 4:18

There are times when the spirit of fear tries to set in to my kids minds, especially at night. I pray with them  and as my dad did with me, I recite God's Word. 

"This is my command to you- be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God  is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

How do we overcome fear? By clinging on to the promises of  God. His promises remain forever and ever!

Here are today's prayers for overcoming fear. Don't forget to repeat them to your kids so that when the enemy tries to instill fear in their hearts, your voice will resonate in their ear with God's word.


May (your child's name) know that You are his light and salvation- that You are the stronghold of his life; whom shall he fear? (Psalms 27:1)

May _________ fear not, stand firm, and see Your salvation, which You will work for him today. (Exodus 14:13)

May ________not be afraid or dismayed; may he be strong and courageous. (Joshua 10:25)

May ____________ not be afraid of those who are against him, for You declare You are with him to deliver him. (Jeremiah 1:8)

May ____________ be strong and courageous and not fear or be in dread, for it's you, Lord, our God  who goes with him. You will not leave him or forsake him. (Deuteronomy 31:6)

May _________ remember that "There is no fear in love, but perfect Love cast out fear..."

Don't let the fear of failure keep you from being the mom that God has called you to be.

Pride Comes Before the Fall

Self-righteousness is dangerous. It leads to pride, causes a person to despise others, and prevents him or her from learning anything from God.  

Proverbs 16:18 says: "Pride goes before destruction and haughtiness before a fall." 

Pride and God's presence are incompatible, it leads to disgrace and destruction. There is no room in God's Kingdom for pride. The only safe ambition is directed towards God's Kingdom, not our own advancements. 

Sadly, a lot of parents teach their children to approach life expecting  high positions, honor, and special privileges.  My husband and I don't focus on raising our boys to excel at everything. Our goal is not to raise professional football or basketball players, CEO's of multi-million dollar companies or even the president of the United States. We teach our boys to work hard and take pleasure in what they do, but we also want them to fail in somethings so that they will not become self-sufficient. We want to make them aware that pride in their own abilities is foolish and that without God we have limitations. 

Let's pray for our kids and renounce pride and status seeking!

May (your child's name) not be led to disgrace by pride, but be humbled by your own wisdom. (Proverbs 11:12)

Lord, make __________ turn from doing wrong, and keep him from pride. (Job 33:17)

All who fear You, Lord, will hate evil. Therefore, I pray that __________ will hate pride and arrogance, corruption and perverse speech. 

Let not the foot of arrogance come upon ___________, nor the hand of the wicked drive him way. (Psalms 36;11)

Lord, Help ___________ stop acting so proudly and haughty, and let not arrogance come from his mouth, for You are a God who knows what we have done; you will judge our action. (1 Samuel 2:3) 

May _________ be humble in spirit and obtain honor, for one's pride will bring him low, but he who is humble in spirit will obtain honor. (Proverbs 29:23)

May the Lord give you the pleasure of having great satisfaction in your children and be greatly encouraged.

Praying for Wisdom

When given the chance to have anything in the world, King Solomon asked for wisdom in order to lead well and to make right decisions. (1 Kings 3:6-9)

We can ask God for this same wisdom for our kids.

"If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking." James 1:5

As parents we need to ask the Lord to give our kids not only knowledge, but also the ability to make wise decisions in difficult circumstances. Asking for wisdom is ultimately asking to be like Christ. 

"...Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God." 1 Corinthians 1:24

Show your children what the Bible says about the wise man and the foolish man and begin to pray for that Christlike wisdom over their lives, heart and mind.


PRAYER FOR WISDOM

May (your child's name) be like Solomon and ask You, God, for an understanding mind and the ability to discern between good and evil. (1 Kings 3:9)

May ___________ find wisdom and therefore find life. (Proverbs 8:35)

May ___________ say to wisdom, "You are my sister", and call insight his intimate friend. (Proverbs 7:4)

Lord, may __________ be filled with the knowledge of Your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding . (Colossians 1:9)

A Heart of Obedience

Moms, we must teach our children to obey us. If we have to consistently discipline in a loving way to see their hearts respond to our teachings, so be it. Obedience and submission to authority are part of our daily lives. Our children will have to submit to someone or something (e.g. the law or their boss). Teaching our kids to obey and respect authority will keep them out of trouble and set them up for success in the future.

If a child is not taught to submit to their authority it will also affect their relationships. If you have boys, understand that if your son does not submit to you, he will not submit to Jesus and will not be able to lead his family. Mom of girls, if your daughter does not respect you or her father, she will not respect or submit to her husband.

"For all who are led by the Spirit of God, are children of God." -Romans 8:14

If our children never learn the importance of obedience, how will they know to obey God's word and commandments; even more, allow themselves be led by the Spirit of God?

Let's pray for the hearts of our children to grasp the importance of obedience. Here are a couple of verses to guide you in your prayer for obedience.


Whether it is favorable or unfavorable, may (your child's name) obey the Lord, so that it will go well with him. (Jeremiah 42:6)

May ____________ obey his parents in you, Lord, for this is right. (Ephesians 6:1)

Let _____________ do this with joy and not with groaning (Hebrews 13:17)

May ___________ obey you rather than man. (Acts 5:29)

May ___________ walk after You, God, and fear You and keep Your commandments and obey Your voice. (Deuteronomy 13:4)

It All Begins with the Matter of the Heart

Whether your child is 1 yr old or 40 yrs old it all begins with the matter of the Heart. 

 

"Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life." -Proverbs 4:23 

Solomon tells us to guard our hearts above all else. Our feelings of love and desires dictate (to an extent) how we live. We need to pray first and foremost for our children's heart, that it may never turn into a heart of stone. Pray that their feelings of love will lead them in the right direction when choosing their future mates, and not go after everything they see. Most of all, that their hearts desires will be aligned with God's plan for their lives. 

Here are a few verses to guide you as you pray for your child's heart.

May (your child's name) draw near to You, Lord, for You promise to draw near to him. May he cleanse his hands and purify his heart. (James 4:8)

May ______________ honor You, God, with his heart and not just his lips (Isaiah 29:13)

May _____________'s heart cry be, "not my will, but Yours, be done." (Luke 22:42)

Create in ____________ a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within him. (Psalm 51:10)

May __________ not set up idols in his heart or embrace things that will make him fall into sin.

21 Days of Prayer for Kingdom Kids

Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a very merry Christmas and a happy new year's day with your family and friends. 

This year my New Year's resolution (as it is every year) is to draw closer to God. My husband and I decided to start off our year beginning January 4th with 21 days of fasting and prayer. We want so many things this year and on the top of that list is a new home. After sitting down with my husband and sharing our hearts desire for this new year, we realized that there is something much more important than a house.

We've been teaching our boys to love God, we go to church, we sit down together at the dinner table, we have devotional time, and even pray before school and before bedtime. But the Holy Spirit keeps tugging at my heart telling me there's something missing; fasting and prayer. 

"Raising kingdom kids in today's culture of mayhem and mess is something bigger than any of us can handle on our own. It will be done well only through a spirit and heart of humility that knowingly depends on God and follows his ways and precepts." -Dr. Tony Evans, Raising Kingdom Kids


We all go through our moments when we feel we are failing as a mom. We  do everything in our power to raise kids who are obedient, making sure that our kids don't get caught up in today's society. I don't know about you but worrying depletes my energy. It can make us weary and cause us to lose hope.

But one thing's for sure, time spent in fasting and prayer builds confidence and helps you develop the determination necessary to continue your journey with strength and perseverance.

So, There Are These BOYS They Kinda Stole My Heart ♥

For many years now I did not understand the true purpose of being a mom. I thought it was just one of requirements of life. I accepted it because it was what my great-grandmother, grandmother and mother did and now it was my turn. When I gave birth to my first son it was quite easy, but as time went by and the kids kept coming, my patients grew thin. I became angry and unpleasant to be around, I felt out of control and all I wanted to do was throw in the towel. Then I came across this book called A Mom After God's Own Heart by Elizabeth George. This book really ministered to my life. It changed my whole perspective on being a mom and I then realized that my home was my first ministry. I now know that my purpose as mom is to raise Godly men, men that will purse God with all their hearts and advance His kingdom. 

Here are the top 3 reasons I've devoted myself to being a 
Mom After God.

My oldest son is Jordan Joseph. He just turned 12 and loves to play video games. Jordan's a leader. When we take him to the park he takes over the playground. All the kids are drawn to him. He looks out for his two younger brothers and is very protective. Like all boys, Jordan can be little hard of hearing but he is an obedient young man and takes care of his chores and responsibilities around the house without a fight. He loves to make people laugh with his jokes but above all he honors and respects me and his dad. 

My 2nd son is Joshua James. He is 10 years old and if I can describe his character in one word it would be EXUBERANT.  The moment you meet Josh, you fall in love with him. He loves to read and loves to draw. He is so creative. He is musically inclined and from time to time he sits in his room with his piano and teaches himself to play a song. He loves to go out on dates with mommy and is very caring. He's the most lovable boy you'll ever meet.

Last but not least is my Little Joe- Joseph Felix. He just turned five and is convinced that he can rule the world. (well not the world, more like our house). He has a mind of his own and loves to get his way. Joseph loves to sing and play drums.  He looks for anything he can find that would make a loud sound and begin playing while singing a song. While holding my hand he will randomly kiss it, look at me and smile. 

I often wondered why God did not bless me we with a little girl, but it's clear to me that God knew exactly what he was doing when he blessed me with my little tykes. 

From dirt and lizards and boyish things that make girls quiver, 

to Love and Honor and becoming a great father.

That's what raising boys is all about.

Since the beginning of time the enemy has tried to destroy families and he has not seized trying. I believe that the enemy's target is boys. Why? Because he knows that they will grow up to be the head and the leaders of their homes and he will do everything in his power to derail them from God's plan for their lives. 

God has placed this unswerving desire in my heart to educate my boys alongside my husband on what it means to be a young man after Gods own heart. The word of God says:

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will never depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6

As a mother I want to encourage you to go into the presence of God daily. As a new day dawns, new challenges arise therefore; we need to pray and ask the Lord for wisdom every morning. We need to seek the Lord's guidance as we go through this journey in raising Kingdom Men.
